Gene Editing has no account, no analytics and no advertising. Your vectors, your saved parts and your edits stay on your device. The app makes one kind of network request, and only when you ask it to.
Every plasmid you import, every part you save and every construct you design is held in storage private to Gene Editing on your own device. None of it is uploaded, backed up to us, or visible to the developer.
Deleting the app removes all of it. There is no copy anywhere else, so export anything you want to keep before you uninstall.
The app works offline. The single exception is the "From NCBI" field, where you can type an accession such as NM_008084 to fetch a coding sequence. When you tap Fetch, the app sends that accession to the US National Library of Medicine's E-utilities service at eutils.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov.
NCBI receives the accession you typed and, as with any web request, your device's IP address. That exchange is governed by the NLM and NIH privacy policies, not this one. Nothing else is included: not your plasmids, not your edits, not any identifier for you or your device.
If you never use that field, the app never contacts a server at all.
The app contains no code that would gather any of the following:
Importing a .dna, .gb, .gbk or FASTA file uses your operating system's file picker. The app reads the file you choose and nothing else; it has no browsing access to the rest of your device.
Exporting writes a GenBank file and hands it to the system share sheet. Where it goes next — Files, Mail, a cloud drive — is your choice, and the app plays no part in it.
Some screens can open an NCBI record, an app store listing, or the companion app Gene Search. Following one of those hands you to your browser, the store, or that app, each with its own privacy policy.
Gene Editing is a laboratory tool intended for researchers. It is not directed at children, and it knowingly collects no information from anyone, of any age.
If a future version of the app changes what it does with data, this policy will be updated before that version is released, and the effective date above will change. Material changes will also be described in the release notes.
